Research interests

The three key members have written one volume each in a five-volume work on Swedish agricultural history 4000 B.C. – 2000 A.D., published in Swedish under the overall title ‘Det svenska jordbrukets historia’, Stockholm 1998-2003. The three volumes written by the key members cover the entire time span 1000 A.D. – 1945. Together with the authors of vol. I and V they are now writing an abridged version in English, to be published in 2010 by Nordic Academic Press, Lund. All three key members are very interested in carrying further the comparative international perspective.
Myrdal is a specialist in Swedish agricultural and social history of the Middle Ages and the 16th and 17th centuries but has done vast research on other time periods and related fields. Myrdal was the initiator and leader of the five-volume work ‘Det svenska jordbrukets historia’.
Morell is a specialist in Swedish agricultural history of the late 19th and the 20th century and has also done vast research on the history of food and nutrition and on inheritance systems.
Gadd has specialized in Swedish 18th and 19th century agricultural history and the history of rural crafts

Research interests

The Stockholm University Department of Human Geography has, since several years back played a leading role in the research on the historical development of agrarian landscapes. Its main geographical focus is on Sweden and on Africa, but the research based on the study of the Swedish rural landscape has always been carried out within a European wide perspective.
